Maribor 2013 – European Youth Capital
This year’s NEPTUNE project of the Champion Circle will be about Maribor – Maribor 2013 – European Youth Capitol. Maribor is the second largest town in Slovenia, and has currently approximately100.000 inhabitants. Maribor lies on the river Drava at the meeting point of the Pohorje Mountain. It is the centre of the Slovenian region of Lower Styria and its largest city.
The European Youth Capital (EYC – http://www.mb2013.si/en/) is a title awarded to an individual European city for a period of one year. The chosen capital gets the opportunity to present a diverse program, how the city is linked to the youth in the town associated with its culture, its social, political and economic life and development. EYC encourages the implementation of new ideas and innovative projects related to the active participation of young people in society and attempts to present a model for further development of youth policies in other European municipalities.
Following the main goal of EYC, the implementation of new ideas and one of the biggest demands of todays architectural concepts, which is sustainability, we are going to do a “RRR” design project (Reduce – Reuse – Recycle).
Subject of the project is applying a totale reused and recycled material and use it for a new reduced functionality – urban furniture! The task for the students will be to come up with a proposal of two pieces of urban furniture, one for the street (city/street use) and one for interior (exhibition) use.
At the beging students will be presented the physical and productional possibilities of working with cardboard and they will also get to see and test already made cardboard designs. Students will work together with supervisors. They will design possible models of proposed products, which will be tested. The goal is, that each group gets a finished product for the final presentation
